An earthenware tureen stand printed in blue with the named view Gubbins, Hertfordshire.  Gubbins, was correctly titled Gobions, after its original owner, Sir Richard Gobions in the 12th century. During the 16th century it passed into the hands of Sir Thomas More and his family. The building shown here was designed by James Gibb in the early 18th century and was surrounded by a fine pleasure garden with statues, water works (cascades, fountains and a lake) by Charles Bridgeman. Today, all that is left is a wood and some parkland owned by the Woodland Trust. The pattern was sourced from a  print published in Neale's Views of the Seats of Nobility and Gentry in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
