Source Description:

Death of the Bear by Samuel Howitt is plate 29 of Oriental Field Sports by Thomas Williamson, London, 1807.  The aquatint is 17 x 12 inches and was engraved by Henri Merke.  Animals in the border are from the same book.

Description:

An earthenware sauce tureen lid printed in blue.  Pattern number 904-10; reference Drakard, David and Holdway, Paul. Spode Transfer Printed Ware, 1784-1833. Woodbridge, Suffolk Antique Collector's Club, Inc., 2002.  Elements from two source prints were used: dogs at the lower right of Death of the Bear, and the deer in the center of The Hog Deer at Bay.  Shown below is an image of the sauce tureen lid on
