Description:

An earthenware soup plate in the View of York pattern from the Diorama series.  Situated at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss, York is an ancient city, founded by the Romans in 71 AD under the name Eboracum. The Danes modified this to Jorvik after invading, and York derives from that. This view shows the medieval stone walls, part of York Castle
