Title: Light-House at Howth Artist: T. Creswich Engraver/Plate Maker: H. Wallis Print Date: 1845 The print depicts the Baily Lighthouse on Howth Head, on the north side of Dublin bay. There has been a lighthouse on this headland since 1667. Its light was often obscured by fog at its original location so the light was moved further down the headland in 1814. Despite the light, the area has been the scene of a number of shipwrecks, most tragically the PS Queen Victoria in 1853, in which over 80 passengers and crew were drowned.
