A tin-glazed earthenware (so-called delftware) plate made in Liverpool and printed there by Sadler and Green with a portrait of "ADMIRAL BOSCAWEN", who was celebrated for his capture of Louisburg in Canada from the French in 1758. Wolfe's capture of Quebec the following year and his death in the battle somewhat overshadowed Boscawen's achievement in the public imagination. The piece is therefore likely to...
