Maker: Mason Maker's Mark: Description: An ironstone china pot-pourri jar with pith pierced cover. The decoration in the 'Japan' style comprises a printed pattern in underglaze purplish-blue; the larger leaves are painted in underglaze blue and the design is filled in with overglaze painting in red, pink and pale blue, the whole enlivened with gilding. The base has an early impressed circular mark which reads PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA, however the style of decoration continued into the 1820s. |
