Description:

An earthenware jug printed in blue with the Blue Bamboo pattern and with gilding. This pattern is also known as Chinese Vase.  The focal point of this pattern is a Chinese musician seated within a large vase playing a mandolin (see the image below). The vase sits on a large table in a garden and is surrounded by a large flower on the right and tall stylized bamboo plants on both sides. The border consists of a floral pattern in the outer rim and a geometric pattern on the inner rim. This example has an impressed WEDGWOOD mark. The pattern was engraved by William Brookes for Wedgwood & Co. in 1805.
